Bio

I grew up in Madagascar, a child of missionary parents. During my 4th and 5th grade years we came back to the US and I took piano lessons from Gladys Markley. She taught me an amazing amount of theory, technique and literature in a short amount of time. I was able to test out of my first year of college theory with what I learned in her studio during grade school!   (That definitely influences my teaching now.) We moved back to the US for my high school years.  In HS and at St. Olaf College I was a percussionist focusing on the tympani and marimba.  I earned a BSN and worked as a nurse for several years.  I have a wonderful husband and 4 precious grown children.  In my free time I love to practice piano, walk, read and garden.

Since moving to Colorado Springs I have studied piano with Sara McDaniel, NCTM, Dr. Janice Saffir and currently study with Dr. Joan Sawyer. This keeps my own piano skills fresh while I continually add to my knowledge of repertoire that I can teach. I am an active member of Pikes Peak Music Teachers’ Association chairing PPMTA’s spring non-competitive festival.
